EPF Calculator (India)
See exactly how much goes into your retirement corpus: enter your basic salary to work out the employee and employer 12% contributions, total invested and the projected EPF balance.
What is an EPF calculator?
An EPF calculator (Employees' Provident Fund calculator) shows how much you and your employer save for your retirement under the Employees' Provident Funds & Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952. Under this scheme, the employee contributes 12% of basic salary plus dearness allowance, and the employer also contributes 12%, though a slice of the employer's share is diverted to the Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS). Over the years, these contributions accumulate and earn interest that is compounded and credited annually, building a substantial retirement corpus.
This free EPF calculator takes four inputs: your basic salary and DA (either monthly or annual), the period of employment in years, and the prevailing EPF interest rate. It then computes the monthly employee and employer contributions, the total amount contributed over your working years, and an estimated future corpus based on annual compounding. The calculation runs entirely on JavaScript in your browser — nothing is uploaded, and you can test different salary levels and tenures before your next appraisal or job change.
How to use
- Enter your basic salary + DA and say whether it is monthly or annual.
- Enter the years of employment.
- Adjust the EPF interest rate if you want a current or custom figure.
- Click Calculate EPF to see the contributions and estimated corpus.
How EPF is calculated
Employee contribution = 12% of basic + DA Employer contribution = 12% of basic + DA EPF corpus = monthly contributions compounded annually at the EPF interest rate over the years of service
The calculation uses the statutory 12% employee and employer shares. Note that the employer's 12% is split — 8.33% funds the Employees' Pension Scheme (capped at a ₹15,000 wage ceiling) and the remainder goes to your EPF account.
Example
With the defaults — ₹25,000 monthly basic salary + DA and 10 years of service — the employee contributes ₹3,000 a month (12%) and the employer ₹3,000 a month (12%), totalling ₹6,000 a month. Over 10 years that is ₹7,20,000 in contributions. Reinvested at 8.25%, the estimated corpus grows to about ₹11,20,771.
Who is this EPF calculator for?
EPF forms the core of most Indian retirement plans, and this calculator helps every kind of earner estimate their own corpus from their basic salary and years of service.
- Students and young adults: An EPF calculator for students and young adults is perfect for your first job. Enter your starting basic salary and track a full career of 12% employee and employer contributions compounding into a healthy corpus.
- Couples: Use an EPF calculator for couples to run both partners' salaries separately, since EPF is per employee. This helps you plan a combined retirement corpus and see how a higher basic for either person lifts the total.
- Salaried professionals: This is the EPF calculator salaried professionals use daily — check your monthly 12% deduction, verify the employer's share, and compare job offers so you understand the real long-term value of a different basic salary.
- Retirees: An EPF calculator for retirees helps you estimate the corpus built over your service, understand the withdrawals available, and plan how your EPF balance fits into your overall retirement income.
EPF growth table by years of service
This EPF table shows how a ₹25,000 monthly basic salary grows at the recent 8.25% annual rate, with the full 12% employee and employer contributions compounded monthly over the service period.

|---|---|---|
| 5 | ₹3,60,000 | ₹4,46,797 |
| 10 | ₹7,20,000 | ₹11,20,771 |
| 15 | ₹10,80,000 | ₹21,37,434 |
| 20 | ₹14,40,000 | ₹36,71,027 |
| 25 | ₹18,00,000 | ₹59,84,390 |
Common use cases
- Plan for retirement: see how your EPF balance grows over a full career.
- Compare job offers: understand how a higher basic salary boosts both your contributions and your employer's.
- Check your passbook: verify that your employer deposits the correct monthly share.
- Plan withdrawals: estimate what you have accumulated before deciding to transfer or withdraw.
Pro tips
- Basic + DA drives everything: a higher basic salary raises both your share and your employer's share.
- The employer share is split: 8.33% goes to EPS (capped at a ₹15,000 wage ceiling) and the rest to EPF, so not all of the employer's 12% stays in your EPF account.
- Interest compounds annually: the longer you stay, the faster the corpus grows through compounding.
- Keep the rate current: the EPF interest rate is reset each year, so update it to reflect the latest board decision.
FAQ
What is EPF in India?
EPF (Employees' Provident Fund) is a retirement savings scheme under the Employees' Provident Funds & Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952. Both the employee and the employer contribute a percentage of the basic salary to build a retirement fund.
How much is the EPF contribution?
The employee contributes 12% of basic salary + DA and the employer also contributes 12%. Of the employer's share, 8.33% goes to the Employees' Pension Scheme (capped at a ₹15,000 wage ceiling) and the remainder to the EPF account.
How is EPF calculated?
Monthly EPF = 12% of basic salary + DA from the employee plus 12% from the employer. Over the years the contributions plus the annual interest build the corpus, with interest compounded and credited annually.
What is the current EPF interest rate?
The EPF interest rate is set annually by the Central Board of Trustees and has recently been around 8.25% per annum, credited yearly on the account balance.
Is EPF contribution mandatory?
For covered establishments EPF is mandatory. An employee whose basic salary exceeds the wage ceiling may opt out, but the employer's contribution continues in such cases.
Can I withdraw my EPF?
Yes, but the amount depends on your period of service. Withdrawals before 5 years of continuous service are generally taxable, while the balance may be transferred to a new account on a job change.
What is the difference between EPF and EPS?
EPF is the provident fund accumulation that pays out on retirement or withdrawal. EPS is a pension scheme funded by a portion of the employer's 8.33% share, providing a monthly pension on retirement.
Is this EPF calculator free?
Yes. It runs entirely in your browser and no data is uploaded anywhere.
